Owing to several influencing factors, mainly stemming from concentrated efforts towards achieving crucial sustainability and decarbonization goals, the use of BioFuels is gaining swift momentum as a transitional fuel in the Maritime industry.
CTI and CTI-Maritec provides the latest routine testing as per ISO 8217:2024 as well as cutting-edge Enhanced Analysis solutions specifically designed to assist ship management and crew to optimally manage their Biodiesel blends, ranging from B20 to B100.
A comprehensive analysis of a Biofuel sample as per ISO 8217:2024 will usually closely test its compositional makeup and characterization, as well as assess its overall quality. However, with one of the main constituents of Biofuel (e.g. Biodiesel) being FAME, a non-hydrocarbon containing carbonyl group, Biofuels have a higher affinity to certain operational issues and therefore, apart for routine testing, taking additional pre-emptive precautionary testing measures to mitigate risks are strongly recommended.
Operational issues, that could arise with the use of Biofuels are microbial growth Issues, poor oxidative stability & long-term storage stability issues, low temperature operational issues, potential corrosion issues, high detergency and cleaning effect, compatibility and material degeneration effect and operational efficiency issues.
Our testing solutions offered for Biofuels include:
- Full analysis testing of Bio-Distillate samples as per ISO8217:2017/24 (for 19 parameters)
- Full analysis testing of Bio-Residual samples as per ISO8217:2017/24 (for 24 parameters)
- Customisable Enhanced Analysis testing options are available for accurate root cause analysis on Oxidative Stability, Long-term Storage Stability, Low Temperature Operation, Microbial Growth, Corrosive Effects and Deleterious Materials, among others
All our Biofuel testing solutions are offered as a routine MFTP or as required on an adhoc basis to investigate abnormalities or if there are any operational issues experienced.
