A comprehensive analysis of a Biofuel sample as per ISO 8217:2024 will usually closely test its compositional makeup and characterization, as well as assess its overall quality. However, with one of the main constituents of Biofuel (e.g. Biodiesel) being FAME, a non-hydrocarbon containing carbonyl group, Biofuels have a higher affinity to certain operational issues and therefore, apart for routine testing, taking additional pre-emptive precautionary testing measures to mitigate risks are strongly recommended.

Operational issues, that could arise with the use of Biofuels are microbial growth Issues, poor oxidative stability & long-term storage stability issues, low temperature operational issues, potential corrosion issues, high detergency and cleaning effect, compatibility and material degeneration effect and operational efficiency issues.
