The Building Materials Carbon Labeling Program is an initiative organized and managed by the China Building Materials Federation. This key project focuses on the disclosure of carbon footprint information for building materials products. Against the backdrop of international efforts to combat climate change and China’s domestic carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, the program uses "Carbon Labels" as a tool to standardize the carbon footprint accounting methods for key building materials products. It aims to establish a building materials carbon emission factor database, encourage the demonstration of carbon label identification on typical products, and promote the scientific sharing of carbon footprint information. This initiative seeks to enrich the carbon footprint application scenarios within the building materials and construction industry chains, laying a foundation for international mutual recognition and facilitating the low-carbon transition of the building materials industry.

◉ Building Materials Carbon Label Verification
In early May 2024, CTI Certification Co., Ltd. (CTI Certification) officially became one of the first verification bodies to join the Building Materials Carbon Label Public Service Platform. As one of the first verification bodies on the platform, CTI Certification will continue to deepen its cooperation with building materials enterprises, providing the following professional third-party services to assist in achieving the national carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
>Carbon Footprint Verification Services
>Subsequent Carbon Label Supervision and Audit Services
◉ Carbon Label Application Process
◉ Significance of Carbon Label Application
National Level: Developed economies are establishing various carbon barriers to hinder the foreign trade and economic development of developing countries. For example, the EU has introduced the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, which imposes limits on the carbon emissions of traded products. In April 2011, Japan required that agricultural products carry carbon labels to show consumers the carbon emissions generated during their production process, making it the first country to implement a carbon labeling system.
Corporate Level: Many globally renowned companies have made "low carbon" a requirement for their supply chains. For instance, Walmart and Tesco have already mandated that their suppliers provide carbon labels. As the carbon labeling system is promoted and implemented internationally, it will undoubtedly have a profound impact on global trade, especially on the foreign trade of developing countries. Therefore, the earlier a company (or country) adopts a carbon labeling system and controls the carbon emissions throughout the product lifecycle, the less it will be affected by green trade restrictions.
◉ Service Process
Online Consultation → Fill Out Application Form → Online Payment → Initial Inspection → Product Sampling → Report Issuance
Document Review: After the carbon label evaluation service agency accepts the evaluation application, it completes the technical review of the materials within 15 working days.
On-Site Audit: The on-site inspection is completed within 30 working days after the technical review of the materials meets or basically meets the requirements.
The carbon label evaluation service agency conducts product sampling and inspection. After a comprehensive evaluation of the sampling and initial inspection results, it applies to the association within 5 working days for the issuance of the product carbon label evaluation certificate to the applicant. Each evaluation unit is entitled to one certificate.
Six months after certification, annual follow-up inspections are scheduled, with each follow-up inspection occurring no more than 12 months apart. Generally, two supervision audits are completed within the validity period of the certificate.
