Regulation Updates for January:
1. The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) issued new regulation on labelling . Labels must include Authority logo of the Authority, Equipment Model of the equipment, and Type Approval Number “MLW/MACRA/TA/YYYY/XXXX”. The effective date is December 1, 2024, but the new label is voluntary for products certified before this date.
2. The National Communications Authority (NCA) officially launches its 5G telecommunications network services on November 1, 2024.
3. The Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) published Resolution No. 278/2024 on September 1, 2024, which announced that 3G telecommunications network services must cease as of June 1, 2025.
4. The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) now allows the new frequency bands to be used: WIFI 6(5925-6425 MHz) ,LORAWAN,RADAR(77-81 GHz),IntelligentTransportation Systems(5875-5905 MHz)
5. On October 8, 2024, the Information Communication Technologies Agency (ICTA) approved the use of frequency band 5945-6425 MHz for Wireless Access Systems (WAS).
6. On November 6, 2024, the Autoridad de Regulación y Fiscalización de Telecomunicaciones y Transportes (ATT) published RAR 539/2024, which increased the Homologation Certifciate validity from 5 years to 10 years.
7. The National Center for Communication Security (NCCS) published a notice on November 29, 2024, which exempts Cloud implemented IP Routers and Wi-Fi CPE from security certification (ComSec) until May 31, 2025.In addition, on December 6, 2024, TEC informed that Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and Optical Line Terminal (OLT) products will be under Voluntary Security Certification (VSC) regime till March 31, 2025.
8. On November 27, 2024, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) updated standard of Adapters for Household and Similar Electrical Appliances to IS 302 (Part 1):2024, which aligns with IEC 60335-1:2020, and replaces the old IS 302-1:2008. Both Standards may be used until February 23, 2025 at which time IS 302-1:2008 will be withdrawn.
9. The Eswatini Communications Commission (ESCCOM) issued General Notice 12/2024, which bans the improtation and type approval of 2G-only and 3G-only deviced by December 31, 2024, while retiring 2G by December 31, 2026 and 3G by December 31, 2028.
10. The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) updated frequency spectrum and added 5925-6425 MHz (6 GHz) for WLAN indoor use to the SRD Guidelines. Maximum EIRP is 250mW.Additionally, the launch of eSIM was announced on December 5, 2024.
11. The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) announced on October 31, 2024, that starting effective dates October 31, 2025 (for vehicle digital broadcasting radio receivers) and February 28, 2025 (for other digital broadcasting radio receivers), FM/AM/DAB receivers will all need approval. NOTE: This approval is requirment from Broadcasting Department, which is separate from the Telecommunication Departement for WWAN/RFID/Wifi/Bluetooth/etc, so if product has WIFI and DAB, it will need to get 2 certificates.Please refer to the WeChat Public Account 【CTI Electronic Technology Division】for monthly Worldwide Approval Newsletters
