On 13 December 2016, the Official Journal of the European Union published Regulation (EU) 2016/2235 adding Entry 66 of Annex XVII to REACH Regulation as bisphenol A (BPA). It provisions that thermal paper shall not be placed on the market unless the BPA concentration in it is less than 0.02% by weight after 2 January 2020.
This Regulation shall enter into force on the twentieth day following that of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Risk Analysis
BPA in plastic baby bottles and other plastic products may affect the development of the infant's growth, and damage the children's brain and organ. It is mainly used for producing polycarbonate, epoxy resin, polysulfone resin, polyphenylene ether resin and other polymer materials. It can be used in the production of plasticizer, flame retardant, antioxidant, pesticide, paint and other fine chemical products.
